Ulysses Pratas is the CEO, and founder has been at the helm of Presteve Foods since December 1986. From its humble beginnings of a small fleet of fishing boats on the Great Lakes in the early 80’s to the largest privately owned vertically integrated company of Freshwater Fish in North America. Presteve’s center of operations and head office are located in Wheatley Ontario, with processing facilities in Kingsville and Sault Ste. Marie, along with a complimenting fishing fleet of 7 vessels operating on Lake Erie. Presteve Foods currently employs over 300 full time employees in the province of Ontario.
Presteve’s processed freshwater fish products are marketed throughout North America, Europe and Asia, primarily servicing the Food Service and Retail market segments.
Ulysses’ parents immigrated to Canada from the surrounding areas of Aveiro, Gafanha da Nazaré and Gafanha de Aquém in the early 60’s. The Pratas’ settled in Leamington, where Ulysses was born and has lived with his wife Salomé from Nazaré Portugal, and children Nalani (currently in her Master’s degree at Nova School of Business and Economics in Lisbon) and Ethan (attending the University of Toronto for his Bachelor’s degree), until December of 2017. Ulysses and Salome now call Mississauga home and are excited for this new chapter in their life.
Ulysses graduated in 1986 from Fanshawe College with a Marketing diploma and also holds a Fishing Masters Class III Captains License. Ulysses has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Commercials Fishermen’s Association since 1996. Currently he is a Director of the Board of Presteve Foods and Sierra Meat and Seafoods of Reno Nevada, and a member of the Tricor Founders Operating Advisory Group of Vancouver B.C. He is also a recipient of many awards recognizing his enthusiasm and dedication to the Freshwater Fishing Industry in Canada.
Most recently, Ulysses has established an office in the Toronto area, setting his sights on new opportunities for Presteve Foods within the fish, seafood and food industries.
During Ulysses’ spare time, he enjoys running. In 2017 he ran 2 half marathons with his daughter in Toronto and 1 in Nazaré Portugal.
