Since 1981, the Federation of Portuguese Canadian Business & Professionals organizes the eldest and most popular Scholarship Program for LusoCanadian students in postsecondary education, having awarded over $1.2 Million Dollars to date.

In 2020, the global COVID19pandemic put a halt to large inperson gatherings and brought upon economic distress which unfortunately resulted in the postponement of the 38thannual FPCBP Academic Excellence Awards Gala, with over 450 attendees scheduled to attend this prestigious event in March at the Pearson Convention Centre.

The FPCBP Board of Directors through the generous donations of its sponsors is proud to once again recognize the academic achievements of 45 LusoCanadian students in a special broadcast television event: “Scholarship Awards 2020”, presented by MDC Media Group and ACS Productions, airing Sunday, June 13th, 2021 at 8:00PM EST, online at www.fpcbp.com, YouTube and Facebook Live platforms, and on digital cable through Camōes TVWIN TV on Bell Fibe channel 659, Rogers 672 and Ignite TV 880.

This 90minute event will also serve to celebrate Portugal Day, with a tribute to Fado and Folklore, featuring special performances by Clara Santos, Hernâni Raposo, Pedro Joel, LusoCan Tuna and comedy duo The Portuguese Kids and will be hosted by Matthew Correia television host and FPCBP Special Projects Manager.

Included for the first time in these 45 scholarships are two new distinguished category awards: the“Stella Maris Choir Music Excellence Award”, which aims to recognize a LusoCanadian student in the arts, paying tribute to the former choir group “Orfeāo Stella Maris”; and the “FPCBP Woman in Leadership Award”, presented by RBC.

The FPCBP is proud to have invited past scholarship recipient, Daniel Almeida as this year’s Keynote Speaker. He is a PhD Candidate in Neuroscience at McGill University and was the only Canadian to be featured in Forbes 2020 30 Under 30 in the Science category. This event will also feature special guest appearances from the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada and Dr. João da Câmara, Ambassador of Portugal in Canada.

The FPCBP invites LusoCanadians across our nation and beyond, to tune in to this special awards show in a safe and memorable way, online, from the comfort of our homes, in hopes that one day soon, “we may return to our regularly scheduled programming”.
